Elon Musk’s Company Seizes Twitter Account @music

1 min read

In a surprising move, Elon Musk’s company has taken control of the Twitter account @music, leaving its original owner, Jeremy Vaught, “super pissed.” This comes after a similar incident involving the @X account. It appears that Musk’s company is rebranding Twitter into X and may be working on a new music-streaming service.

Vaught had been in control of the @music account for 16 years, using it to promote independent musicians and connect with his followers. However, he acknowledges that he had no inherent rights to the account and understands the risks of building on someone else’s platform.

Following the account takeover, Vaught’s posts have been moved to his new handle, @musicfan. He has considered requesting a change to the handle @music1234568998765 as a reference to the placeholder account given to Gene X. Hwang when he lost access to the @X handle.

Despite his anger towards Musk’s company, Vaught does not plan on quitting Twitter, as he sees no alternative platform with the same level of community engagement.

While the sudden seizure of the @music account may be shocking for Vaught, it highlights the potential risks of building on social media platforms owned by others.
